Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy

This was the choice of the community "Bangor Reads" program a few years ago. It is a children's book based on real events in Phippsburg, ME in 1912. Turner Buckminster feels out of place in his new home town until he befriends Lizzie, a poor girl from the nearby slave founded island of Malaga. When the town fathers want to oust the residents to turn the island into a tourist spot, a conflict arises.

June 16th Last Book Discussion of Season for Edythe Dyer Community Library


On June 16th the Edythe Dyer Community Library will host their last book discussion until fall. Their book choice is To the Power of Three by Laura Lippman. Laura Lippman's genre is private investigation books for which she has won just about every mystery award going. This one is a homicide case involving three best friends since childhood.

Grandmother and the Priests a Hit with Bangor Reading Group


The leader of a local Bangor book group reported all in her group loved this book, Grandmother and the Priests by Taylor Caldwell. Young Rose is a frequent visitor at her Grandmother's house where she benefits from stories told by the priests who are invited to dinner.

Latest Book Selection by the Bangor Reading Ring

A Bangor Reading Ring group chooses Here If You Need Me by Kate Braestrap. After her Me State trooper husband is killed in an accident, Kate takes his place at the Seminary. Eventually she becomes Chaplain to ME game wardens accompanying
them on search and rescue missions.

Latest Book Selection by a ME Library Book Group


Soldiers Memorial Library in Hiram, ME chooses Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. This book continues to be a favorite of book groups all over the country. Nursing home resident Jacob Jankowski recalls his younger life in the circus during the Great Depression.
