Local Author Introduces Her New Book at the Bangor Public Library

Meet Ardeana Hamlin, Thursday, June 16, at 6:30PM.

Ardeana Hamlin’s latest book, Abbott’s Reach, is a sequel to her first book, Pink Chimneys, first published 24 years ago and now a Maine classic. The new book takes up where the first book left off, allowing readers to discover what became of Maude, Fanny, and Elizabeth. The heroine of Abbott’s Reach is Elizabeth’s daughter, Mercy Maude, always called M, who marries a Searsport sea captain and goes to sea with him on a honeymoon voyage. Both books take the reader to 19th century Bangor where great prosperity and grim poverty coexist.

Hamlin writes the “By Hand” column that appears Tuesdays in the Bangor Daily News. She is an assistant editor for “The Weekly” and “Midcoast Beacon” newspapers at the BDN. She lives and writes in Hampden.
